For the longest time, men were associated with ‘power,’ but little did they realize that the power in women’s hands transcends all other forms of power. A woman struggles with inner fears, works outside, and yet earns less than male laborers. But still, women have conquered every field of life with their determination, courage and zeal.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, let us take a look at some of the most powerful women in India
1. Nirmala Sitharaman
Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Finance Minister, requires little to no introduction, to say the least. Sitharam is India’s first full-time female finance minister. Previously, Sitharaman served as the Union Defence Minister under the Bharatiya Janata Party, becoming the second Indian woman to hold the position after Indira Gandhi.
2. Mithali Raj
Featuring a woman cricketer in the list of powerful and influential Indian women is a moment of pride for us. The contributions of this lady to Indian Women’s cricket give women hope that sports will no longer be a male-dominated territory.
3. Roshni Nadar Malhotra
Roshni Nadar Malhotra is the CEO of HCL Corporation and the Chairperson of HCL Technology, and she is ranked 52 on Forbes’ list of the 100 Most Powerful Women. Roshni Nadar, the sole daughter of HCL founder and billionaire Shiv Nadar, was named the richest Indian woman in 2019 by the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List.
4. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw was awarded the Othmer Gold Medal for her remarkable contributions to the advancement of science and chemistry. In addition, she received the Padma Shri in 1989 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.
5. Ekta Kapoor
Ekta Kapoor, the woman behind the saas-bahu soaps and comedy on television, has reigned over Indian television for many years and is unquestionably one of India’s most successful female entrepreneurs. This woman is constantly evolving, keeping up with the latest trends and providing content that appeals to the audience’s preferences.
6. Soumya Swaminathan
The World Health Organization’s (WHO) head scientist is a wonderful character to consider. Swaminathan is a pediatrician and clinical scientist well recognized for his HIV and tuberculosis research. The 62-year-old expert was instrumental in the launch of various public health programs.
7. Ritu Karidhal
Ritu Karidhal, Chandrayaan 2’s Mission Director, is also known as the “Rocket Woman of India.” She rose to prominence during the launch of the Mars Orbiter Mission when she served as Deputy Operations Director. Ritu was just named to Forbes’ 2020 list of India’s Self-Made Women.
8. Falguni Nayar
Falguni Nayar, A former investment banker turned entrepreneur, is bringing beauty items to people all throughout India. Her e-commerce site Nykaa.com is India’s largest beauty retailer.
9. Nowhera Shaik
Nowhera Shaik is an Indian politician and businesswoman. She is the president of the All India Mahila Empowerment Party and the founder and executive chairperson of Heera Group.
10. Priyanka Chopra
A list of influential Indian women would be incomplete without Priyanka Chopra’s name! Priyanka Chopra, a former Miss India, and Miss World is now a global icon. She is an actor, producer, singer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur. She rose to prominence in the United States thanks to her roles in the television series Quantico and the film Baywatch. She was also named on USA Today’s 2019 list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Entertainment. Priyanka is literally confronting the entire globe.
