From Lucknow to Ladakh: India celebrates Republic Day 2022 

India is celebrating the 73rd Republic Day today as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav marking 75 years of freedom. From Lucknow to Ladakh celebrated the Republic Day parade this year showing India’s military power, cultural diversity, and numerous unique efforts to honor the celebration of the 75th year of independence. 

The huge Republic Day procession started at 10:30 am today under gloomy weather. As per tradition, the national flag was unfurled followed by the National Anthem with a booming 21-gun salute, presented by Ceremonial Battery of 871 Field Regiment. 

The celebrations began on January 23 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary, inaugurated the hologram statue of the freedom fighter at India Gate in Delhi on Sunday. 

As many as 75 aircraft of the Indian Air Force did a flypast showing India’s military strength during the event. For the first time, the military ministry aired videos from the cockpit as the helicopters and aircraft sailed over Rajpath. The Centre also placed 10 huge LED screens, five on each side of Rajpath, for spectators at the location. The visitor list was reduced short this year to ensure essential Covid regulations. 

On the eve of Republic Day celebrations, President Ram Nath Kovind approved awards of 384 gallantry and other defense honors to armed services members and others. 

The Centre also announced the Padma awards on Tuesday. The President approved the conferment of 128 Padma awards this year, including two pair cases, in which the honor is counted as one. The list features four Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 107 Padma Shri awards. 

176 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and 18 BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) swapped sweets at Fulbari at the India-Bangladesh border near Siliguri.
