How to reduce electricity bills by keeping your room cool?

The ongoing heat wave is troubling people across several parts of India. The demand for air conditioners has increased by multiple folds. With the higher usage of ACs, the electricity bill is higher at the end of the month, and that’s a concerning factor for most people. Most air conditioners these days provide better temperature and humidity control. And this, in turn, helps reduce the electricity bill at the end of the month.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind while buying a new AC.

If you still have an old air conditioner at home, there are some simple ways that can help the AC cool faster, which in turn will help lower energy consumption and reduce the electricity bill at the end of the month.

Tip 1

Keeping the door, windows and all openings in the room closed when the AC is turned on. If there are any openings in the room, the air conditioner will take extra time to cool and that will directly impact the electricity bill at the end of the month.

Tip 2

To help the AC cool faster, it is advisable to clean the filters at regular intervals. So, in any instance, if you feel the room air conditioner is not cooling sufficiently, clean the filters immediately. Most air conditioners let users clean the filters by themselves. But just in case you are not confident enough, call the company for service. Most companies offer free service in the first year, but later servicing comes at a certain cost.

Tip 3

Keeping the fan on when the air conditioner is turned on helps with better cooling. It helps to circulate the cool air all throughout the room.

Tip 4

For the AC to cool the room better, turn off the lights and also exhaust the fan if there’s any. Turning off lights reduces the heat level in the room and lets the AC cool better. Turning off exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathroom also helps with better cooling.
