India’s Capital banned Ola, Uber, and Rapido Bike Taxi Services

Ola, Uber, and Rapido bike taxi Services have been banned in India’s Capital city Delhi with immediate effect.

This decision seriously affected the commuters who primarily rely on bike taxi services as they were cheaper compared to car taxi services. “It has come to light that Ola, Uber, and Rapido bike taxi services have damaged transport rules”.Hence the services have been banned by the transport department and sent notice.

It’s been noticed that two-wheelers having non-transport(private) registration marks/numbers are used to carry passengers on hire which is a purely commercial operation and a violation.

Uber, Ola, and Rapido Bike taxi services that are providing rides to users will be fined up to Rupees 1 Lakh, under the Moto Vehicles Act 1988. According to the Motor Vehicles act, private vehicles cannot be used for commercial operations in India.

Notice sent by the Transport Department

According to the notice sent by the transport department, a fine of Rs 5,000/- will be imposed for the first offense, and for the Second offense Rs 10,000/- will be charged and apart from this, Uber, Ola, and Rapido Bike taxi riders will be imprisoned for at least 1 year and rider license will be suspended for 3 months.

The fine for Ola, Uber, and Rapido bike taxis will be much higher for providing bike taxi rides. It comes just weeks after the Supreme Court banned Rapido Services in the western states of Maharashtra and declined relief to bike, taxi, and auto services. The company was operating in the state illegally without a legal license as per the reports.

According to one of the reports published by Allied Market Research India’s Motorbike taxi market was valued at $50.5 million and was excepted to reach around $1.5 billion by 2030.

This is a big surprise to many who rely on two-wheeler taxi services by Ola, Uber, and Rapido.
