“No quarantine for India visitors to the UK who are fully vaccinated with Covishield or another UK-approved vaccine beginning October 11,” British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis tweeted.

No quarantine from 11th oct

Indians who have been fully vaccinated with Covishield or any other UK-approved vaccine will not be quarantined when they arrive in the UK starting October 11, the High Commissioner to India announced on Thursday, putting an end to a row over what was perceived as unfair application of COVID-19 quarantine rules.

“From the 11th of October, there will be no quarantine for Indian visitors to the United Kingdom who have been properly vaccinated with Covishield or another UK-approved vaccine. Thank you to the Indian government for your close collaboration over the previous month “Alex Ellis, the British High Commissioner to India, tweeted on Thursday.

On October 1, India implemented a required 10-day quarantine for British people, regardless of vaccination status, in reaction to the UK quarantine laws for Indians and citizens of many nations, including those vaccinated with UK-approved Covishield.

The UK government has been called discriminatory and even “colonialist” for refusing to recognise tourists as vaccinated unless they had their injections in a few designated countries.

“I’m also making changes so that visitors to England have fewer entry requirements, by recognising those with fully-vax status from 37 new countries and territories, including India, Turkey, and Ghana, and treating them the same as UK fully vax passengers,” said Britain’s Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps in a tweet.

“The decision was made after close technical cooperation between our ministries, taking public health factors into mind,” a spokesperson for the British High Commission said in a statement on Thursday.

The UK keeps efficacy data and information on vaccine deployment internationally under review, according to the statement, and has kept visa rules under regular review during the epidemic to keep borders open while progressively and safely resuming travel.
